Morphological disparity trends in Devonian trilobites from North Africa

چکیده
Abstract The Devonian was a time of drastic environmental change that shaped the morphology trilobites. This study aims to investigate their morphological evolution and show influence some abiotic biotic factors (bathymetry, feeding habits visual abilities) on shape. A dataset compiled shape three structures (cephalon as whole, central part cephalon, pygidium) trilobites from North Africa, using geometric morphometric approach. Based empirical morphospaces, changes were quantified through stages. results reveal important variations in disparity glabella shape, facial suture location, pygidial length presence spines. In Lochkovian, low, subsequently increased Pragian with numerous innovations, reached maximum Emsian. If morphospace occupancy remained until Eifelian, severe loss occurred Givetian, known for changes. Disparity then low Late Devonian. shapes inherited Silurian persisted throughout whereas novelties most affected by losses. These persistent more versatile adaptation, helping those survive events. Similarly, trilobite orders survived events had wide spectrum better adapted withstand change.

Bathymetric patterns of morphological disparity in deep-sea gastropods from the western North Atlantic basin.
Understanding patterns of species richness requires knowledge of the individual roles species play in community structure. Here, I use gastropod shells as a source of information about both their ecological and their evolutionary functions in generating bathymetric gradients of diversity. Specifically, morphological disparity of shell architecture in deep-sea gastropods is evaluated over a dept...
متن کاملNew morphological information on, and species of placoderm fish Africanaspis (Arthrodira, Placodermi) from the Late Devonian of South Africa
Here we present a new species of placoderm fish, Africanaspis edmountaini sp. nov., and redescribe Africanaspis doryssa on the basis of new material collected from the type locality of Africanaspis. The new material includes the first head shields of Africanaspis doryssa in addition to soft anatomy for both taxa. Hitherto Africanaspis was entirely described from trunk armour and no record of bo...

A new fossil site near Gilboa, New York, is one of only three where fossils of terrestrial arthropods of Devonian age have been found. The new Gilboan fauna is younger than the other two but richer in taxa. Fragmentary remains and nearly whole specimens assigned to Eurypterida, Arachnida (Trigonotarbida, Araneae, Amblypygi, and Acari), Chilopoda [Craterostigmatomorpha(?) and Scuterigeromorpha(?...

Conodonts of Khoshyeilagh Formation, the most complete section of Devonian rocks in the Alborz Mountains, northern Iran, has been studied, and subspecies of the genera Icriodus, Bipennatus, Polygnathus, Pelekysgnathus, Ancyrodella, Palmatolepis, Bispathodus, Scaphignathus, Clydagnathus, Gnathodus, Scaliognathus and Dollymae have been obtained from the studied section. The faunas indicate an Eif...

Cambrian sedimentary facies are exposed throughout north part of Kerman region. Trilobites’ faunas are the most common invertebrate fossils within the Cambrian strata. The section is made of 217 m of sandstone, shale, limestone and dolomite. In this study, 153 trilobite samples including seven species and genera were identified from the Dahu section 12 Km. east of Zarand. This trilobite’s assem...
